Boxercise
Kimberley Performing Arts Centre

This is a foundation course for teachers. You will gain and insight and knowledge of boxing skills to be used for fitness whether it is for a class format or padwork with smaller groups of children. This is an 8 hour practical course, where you will learn the 8 types of punches and how to hold pads, how to organise classes safely and some boxercise aerobic routines. The assessment of the course is practical and is based only on what has been taught on the day. This course is available to any teacher or member of staff with a level 2 coaching qualification only. In the first instance only one person per school can attend, but a waiting list will be kept if spaces allow.

Active Learning/English

A one day course that uses the context of PE and sport alongside practical learning approaches to support the teaching of English across the whole school. During the course we will look at how to use physical activity in the teaching of Phonics, SPAG as well as looking at how physical activity can enhance learning throughout the curriculum. The course will provide ideas and content so that teachers can use sport to inspire high quality writing from Foundation up to Year 6.

Ready Set Ride
Bowmandale Primary School, Barton

HSBC UK Ready Set Ride has been created to give schools and families free, quick and easy games to help you teach children how to pedal – having lots of fun along the way. This training will provide school staff and parents with the skills and confidence to give it a go. It will explore the simple learn to ride programme that connects schools and families to a shared activity and valuable life skill. Overall it supports a school to work with families and parents as part of helping children achieve their recommended CMO guidance of 60 minutes of daily physical activity. Following the training, each school will receive access to the website and downloadable resources as well as a printed copy of resources to utilise in school and share with parents.

Introduction to Primary Gymnastics

The course will develop teachers’ depth of knowledge and understanding of Gymnastics, through the delivery of the National Governing Body Intermediate Primary Teachers Course. Giving technical knowledge and confidence in delivery. This is a two day, 12 hour practical course, enabling you to build confidence in the approach to Gymnastics and will develop the necessary skills required to teach set moves, to incorporate apparatus and sequences into lessons, to understand and underpin good body management, to identify and remedy faults and to develop subject knowledge for further skill acquisition. The course will deliver up to date advice and guidance with a fresh and enthusiastic approach. Offering inspirational ideas, with tried and tested strategies for improving the quality of learning. Teachers who successfully complete the course will receive a British Gymnastics accreditation certificate and resource pack.

The course aims to put maths into an active, practical context focusing on number, addition and multiplication. There will also be some activities and games based around interpreting and recording data, measurement and problem solving for Foundation up to upper KS2. The day will be based around a range of sporting concepts allowing teachers to see sport as an opportunity for children to apply knowledge in a physical way. The course will give teachers and senior leaders a wide range of fun, physical ideas to enhance learning within the maths curriculum and beyond
