The third year of the Humber School Games has been a huge success with over 20 sports being competed at over the academic year. Last week an estimated 2000 young athletes competed across 3 separate events. First saw a multi-sport event specifically designed for small primary schools, followed by a Quad Kids athletics event, both held at Costello Stadium, followed by the large multi-sport summer finals held at Hymers College, Hull. Both venues provided excellent facilities to host the Games.
The energy levels and effort on show within the competitions was superb and it was clear to see that all competitors had a great experience within competitive sport. The Humber School Games sports were competed at by primary, secondary and special schools from the four areas making up the Humber – Hull, East Riding, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.
The event at Hymers started with an opening ceremony to welcome the teams, with dance performances from St. Marys College, Hull and Barton St. Peters, North Lincolnshire and speaker Anthony Clark international badminton player who represented England on more than 100 occasions. The ceremony set the tone of the event and warmed-up the young people ready for the day’s competitions.
All of the competitions throughout the year have been supported by young leaders from across the Humber, approximately 300 young volunteers have given up their time to support the events to run, and we thank every single one of them for their efforts.
