Get Going Rewarding Positive Change in North Lincs

Get Ahead Partnership’s healthy weight initiative, Get Going, held its third annual Awards Evening at The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe this week to celebrate the achievements of the children on the programme.

The Awards Evening was attended by nearly 200 guests including children and their families in recognition of the progress they have made so far, and the changes they have made both individually and as a family. Awards were presented for each stage of the programme and for those children exceeding expectation, there were special awards for which they had been nominated with winners announced on the night. These awards were split into four categories including Healthy Eating Award, I Can Award, Most Active Award and the Family Award.

Helena Palin, Physical Activity and Healthy Weight Coordinator said “This is a fantastic opportunity for the children to be recognised for all their efforts in making sustainable changes throughout the previous year. For some of the children, it can be a daunting experience getting up on stage, but the positivity and shared experience of the event really gives them a boost and new found confidence.”

The Get Going programme was launched five years ago, commissioned by North Lincolnshire Council Public Health to run locally. It is a free programme for young people in the region who are above a healthy weight, encouraging and guiding them to make lasting lifestyle changes, focusing on physical activity and nutrition through one-to-one sessions and group activities. The programme has a proven track record of success, acknowledged by Public Health both locally and regionally.
