The Get Ahead Partnership organised the final Do Yourself Proud event of the academic year at the Brumby Hall Sports Ground on Friday 28th June 2019. The event was attended by seven primary and junior schools from North Lincolnshire, with nearly 200 children from across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 taking part. The event was aimed at children who were less active or less confident, who have not represented their school before.
This event had a focus around children experiencing a variety of different challenges during a fun run filled with lots of obstacles. This was delivered by the Get Ahead team with support from the Scunthorpe Army Reserves and Althorpe & Keadby Primary School allowing us the use of some of their equipment. Throughout the fun run a variety of activities were experienced by all the children and some staff members from their respective schools, these included; Jumping over hurdles, Stepping through ladders, Army crawling under a cargo net, Gliding down the water slide, Jumping over straw bales, Stepping through tyres, Tyre pulling round cones and Balancing on the tug of war rope.
The effort that was put in from all the children from every school was fantastic and the smiles on their faces as they were running made the event even more worthwhile.
Following the fun run the children took part in an orienteering activity which encouraged them to use team work skills; this activity was called Funny Faces, all the children were excellent and did very well working together.
During the event children represented their schools and showed great determination,
honesty, self-belief and enthusiasm.
