The Get Ahead Partnership organised the Do Yourself Proud event at the Brumby Hall Sports Ground on Friday 24th May 2019. The event was attended by twenty primary and junior schools from North Lincolnshire, with nearly 540 children from across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 taking part. The event was aimed at children who were less active or less confident, who have not represented their school before.
This event had a focus around children achieving their personal best during a variety of
different challenges, and then taking part in a fun run filled with lots of colour. This was
delivered by the Get Ahead team and leaders from North Lindsey College who were fantastic.
Throughout the personal best challenges, a variety of activities were experienced by all the children, these included; Around Your Body and Under Your Leg, How many strides they could do, Throw, Clap & Catch, Bean Bag Darts Challenge, Figure of Eight and Partner Throw and Catch challenge.
This enabled each school to try and enjoy new challenges in a time limit of thirty seconds that they could then go away and practice either in school or at home to improve their own personal best. During the challenges children represented their schools and showed great determination, honesty, self-belief and enthusiasm.
Following this the children and also staff members then completed many laps around the course set out, this was done with lots of colour and fantastic smiles throughout the duration.
Children and staff completed a 400m circuit at least four times, some going round more.
During this there were different colour stations in which the Get Ahead team made all the participants, as well as themselves very colourful. Post event, the smiles on children’s faces was excellent and receiving feedback from both staff
and children has been brilliant!
